I’d love to hear if any of you found things in common. October 20 Matilda Leigh's Early & Quick ArrivalMy birth story ~ Matilda Leigh (Induced 2 weeks early ~ Under 2 Hours Labour) It's taken me a while to write and piece this all together, so i apologise if some of it doesnt make much sense. I was 38weeks exactly when I last went for my pre-natal visit at the Ante-Natal clinic. After seeing the diabetic educator, I was told I needed to be seen by one of the doctors before I left. After the doctor checked the baby’s heartbeat, and checked my fundal measurements, she then checked my blood sugar levels, to which she said wasn’t getting any better, and she’d prefer I be induced, rather then let me go to full term, incase the baby became Hypoglycemic. She then asked if she could do an internal to decide whether or not my cervix was favourable for an induction. The baby was 3/5ths engaged, but unfortunately by cervix wasn’t ripe yet. So I was told that I’d need to have the Prostin Gel applied the night before being induced. The doctor then asked if I was ok with being induced, and then proceeded to make an scheduled induction for the following Monday (18th September). On the morning of Sunday the 17th I madly rushed around the house, trying to make sure everything was in order for when my mum and mother in law arrived… which was only a few hours away. By 4pm I had everything packed and ready to head over to the hospital. I was supposed to be admitted by 4.30pm so that they could apply my 1st lot of Prostin Gel. My hubby Matthew and I arrived at the hospital somewhat just after 4.30pm, and I was shown to my own private room. Matt quickly arranged for my rental telly to be set up so that he could watch the history channel on Fox TV. Not long after rooming in, a midwife came and and attached the CTG belt on me to monitor the baby’s heartbeat. They were happy with the CTG results so about an hour later a doctor and another midwife came in to apply my 1st lot of Prostin Gel. I was told something could happen that night as the baby had engaged and I was 3cms dialated even before the gel had been applied, otherwise they’d apply a 2nd lot of gel. They put the CTG machine on me again to make sure the baby wasn’t distressed by the gel. The Baby was quite active, but clearly still quite content to be on the inside. It was probably about 4 hours later (approx 10.30 – 11.00 pm) that they came back and applied the 2nd lot of gel. The only pain I undured that night was an excruciating tooth ache. It was soooo bad that I ended up asking if I could get some pain relief for it. It was only half an hour later that the pain subsided, and I finally managed to doze off to sleep that night. I think it was roughly 7am when my breakfast was brought into me. It was at about 8am that another doctor followed by yet another midwife came and and told me that if all was favourable, they’d be rupturing my waters and inserting the drip to induce my labour. Half hour later after re-packing my bags they showed me to the labour ward, and asked me to get comfortable on the labour bed. It wasn’t much longer after that, that the previous doctor re-appeared and said he’d do an internal to see if he could rupture my membranes. “Oh I can feel it’s head” he said. He then said everything was ok to go ahead, and that he’d now break my waters. I tensed up somewhat, not knowing what to expect. But I have to say it felt quite good having my waters broken. The waters were clear, and no sign of meconium, so the doctor instructed the nurse and a midwife to go ahead and insert the drip as he left the ward. I’d advised them that last time when I’d had the drip inserted, I felt that my contractions were way too powerful, and that I wasn’t getting enough time to ride out any of the contractions before another would come, so they assured me that they’d start off with a low dose, and increase it as time progressed. I think it was only 5 minutes later that I got my 1st contraction which was at around 9.45am. Shortly after, my husband and my mother arrived (both there for my support). Thankfully my husband had remembered to bring some chilled bottled water. I hated drinking out of those horrible plastic cups when I was dehydrated. By this time, my contractions were getting quite a lot stronger, and were starting to get longer. The midwife that was there told me to try and ride it out like a wave, and to let her know when each contraction subsided. But before I knew it I was enduring multiple contractions, one on top of the other again just like last time. I barely had a chance to say anything in between contractions. From here on, most of what happened is a blur, as my main concern was to get through each contraction. Thankfully with both my husband and my dear mum there with their constant encouragement and support, i managed to ride each contraction knowing i was getting closer and closer to the end. So……… After about 1 and ½ hours they said they wanted to change the CTG monitor to something they could put on the baby’s head, as they weren’t getting a strong enough reading from the CTG machine. So the nurse went ahead and did an internal to find out how far along I’d come, only to be rudely shocked by saying “$hit Kylie you’re already 10cms dialated, get ready to push, she’s coming out!”. I’d already been holding back 2 urges to push, so I was exetremely relieved to hear I could finally push and not hold back any longer. But then just as I started to push, the pain and urgency suddenly changed my mind. I swear I was yelling out “OH NO, PLEASE STOP, PUSH IT BACK IN, I WANT TO GO HOME!” Suddenly
it was all too real and i was petrified. I wanted them to push it back
in and let me out of there. But apparently no one heard me when I asked
them later on about it, so I must have been saying it in my mind.
Finally after everyone’s encouragement and realising i'd done this
twice before, I tried again and on my 2nd push, our beautiful baby girl
Matilda Leigh was born.
So quickly though, that the midwife and nurse weren’t at all ready to
catch her, and she landed suddenly on the bed in one big gush. From
what I could hear my hubby saying, the cord was wrapped around our baby
Matilda’s neck, but sure enough I heard our baby girl manage a little
squawk just before they placed her on my chest. My hubby eagerly cut
the cord, as he was quite concerned about how purple our lil darling
was, only to be quickly re-assured they all come out coloured like that
at 1st. After they’d delivered the placenta and thankfully ruled out
any tears (I was scared $hitless of tearing, I think the thought of
having a needle and thread in that area was worse a thought then the
actual tear itself), I quickly asked if I could have a look at the
placenta. Both my hubby and mum looked at me with disgust, but they
both quickly hurried over to look as the midwife showpieced it in a
sterile tray. And showed us where the baby would have been inside all
the while stretching it and holding it up, as well as sharing other
interesting facts about the placenta and the cord. Well it’s not every
day you get to see a placenta is it?? So all in all my labour was just under 2 hours, and totally drug free. The drug free part wasn’t totally my decision (even though I’d wanted to try a drug free labour this time), the fact that the labour was so fast… kind of took that option out of my hands!! After half an hour of cuddling, they told me they’d have to take my lil girl to the Special Care Nursery as she’d have to be monitored for a while due to my Gestational Diabetes. They wanted to make sure that she hadn’t become dependant on the insulin I had been taking. What turned out to be a few hours of observation turned into 2 nights, but thankfully after having a little bit of jaundice and a high temp for a day, it finally came down and I was able to room with her for one night before being given the all clear on an early discharge. Since then it’s been busy, busy, busy… but I wouldn’t change any of this for anything. DD was born on the 18th of September (Originally due on the 28th/29th September), weighing 7 pounds 9 ounces ( 3.040 kgs) head circ of 34.5cms, and 52cms in length. Apgar score of 9 and then 10. P.s. To those of you having your 2nd, 3rd or more, be prepared for major painful afterbirth pains as your uterus contracts back. I wish some one had of told me they get more painful the more children you have. I also reckon they should still offer drugs even after you’ve had the baby!!!! Damn I could easily have done with some gas after every breastfeed for the 1st week!!Thank you all for reading my birth story. September 08 Welcome to OceangramFeeling bored? Try this cool site out! http://www.oceangram.com/ Be warned though, it is addictive! Also, it make take a few mins at most before you recieve a bottle! August 21 39 days or less till our family grows...!![]() Seems like it took an eternity to get this far... and now i have less then 6 weeks to go.
I'm definately ready to meet our baby... but a few more weeks of cooking wouldn't hurt.
There have already been a few ladies from my "due in september mummies" group that have just recently had their babies.
And i'm soooo jealous. It'll be an interesting few weeks after the baby arrives, seeing how my son Zachery and my daughter Darcy will re-act.
I have no doubt Zachery will be a overly proud doting brother again.... but it'll be interesting to see how Darcy copes with the big changes ahead. She's never been a very demanding baby... but i have a feeling that may change when she realises that she can't have me at her beck and call when it suits her.
I'm sure it'll all go smoothly though.
Well i just popped in to try and give a little update... i best be off now and start getting dinner ready ~ tonight we're going to have mini chicken schnitzels with vegies and rice topped with a zingy lemon sauce.... mmm making me hungry already
xo

*** Rainbow Text Effect *** created @: http://rainbow.arch.scriptmania.com/tools/rainbow_text/rainbow_text.htmlMay 22 It's a girl!A few weeks ago, we found out we're expecting another girl !! Hubby and i were happy what ever our Jellybean was going to be, but knowing now, helps us plan towards the birth. At least now i know i won't have to buy much in regards to clothing. And thankfully due to my sister's generousity, i won't have to buy a cot, highchair etc for this one. Even though we don't have to think of boys names, hubby and i are still struggling with baby names for a girl. The only name we've strongly agreed on is "Charlie". But for some reason i still wouldn't mind seeing if there is any other names out there that grab us even more. Hehehe, and then the fun of picking a middle name as well. Well unfortunately this entry will have to be cut short. My lil miss Darcy isn't feeling the best today, and is refusing to go down for a nap today. Will try and update again soon. xo kylie March 19 My CutGot my hair cut yesterday.... and it was done just the way i wanted it.
Here's the picture i gave to the stylist:
The stylist wanted to talk me into getting highlights like the model does in the picture, but because i'm pregnant, i think i may wait till after the baby is born before i start using chemicals in my head again.
Anyways... i'm so so so so so tired.... i think i may lay down for a while, and catch up again on here later 2nite!
Cheers, cyas later!
